Pujols against the Cubs

 St. Louis Cardinalsvs. Chicago Cubs

We here at www.albertpujolsclub.com are highlighting Albert Pujols season and career numbers against each team on the Cardinals 2007 schedule. We have arrived at the 7th series of the year, April 20-22. This series against the Cardinals lifelong rival- the Chicago Cubs. This series- in historic Wrigley Field. Check them out. Enjoy:

2006 v. Cubs:

18 games
14-68, .206 batting average
9 runs
2 doubles
0 triples
2 homeruns
13 rbi's
8 walks
13 strikeouts
Albert's struggles against the Cubs were well documented during the 2006 season. The Cub fans loved to chit chat about how the Cubs owned Albert and the Cardinals. They did win the season series against the Cardinals, but, who got the last laugh in the World Series. So what, Albert struggles against the Cubs. Won't happen in 07!

2006 at Wrigley Field

10 games
8-37, .216 batting average
6 runs
1 double
0 triples
1 homerun
7 rbi's
4 walks
7 strikeouts
Albert's .216 batting average is nothing to write home about, and frankly none of these stats in 06 are. His glaring stat is the 4 walks, 7 strikeouts. Definately not Albert like.
Career v. Cubs
98 games
101-359, .281 batting average
63 runs
17 doubles
1 triple
26 homeruns
72 rbi's
49 walks
47 strikeots
Albert's overall stats against the Cubs are definately an improvement over his 2006 numbers. The .281 batting average is well below Albert standards, and actually ranks second lowest among all National League teams. His 49 walks to 47 strikeouts is the key for Albert.

Career at Wrigley Field

51 games
54-197, .274 batting average
30 runs
12 doubles
0 triples
14 homeruns
37 rbi's
22 walks
26 strikeouts
Time for Albert to pick it up at Wrigley during 2007!

Schoendienst meets A.J.

St. Louis Cardinals hall of famer Red Schoendienst had the privilege of meeting the son of our guy Albert Pujols, 6 year old A.J. on Thursday. While Red was wearing his usual St. Louis Cardinals red uniform, A.J. was a little less casual wearing shorts, a tshirt, and some sneakers.
Read more about A.J. and Red's exchange from a fantastic article written by Bryan Burwell of the St. Louis Post Dispatch right here .

Albert ready to go, after busy offseason

Albert Pujols arrived to Roger Dean Stadium on Wednesday, with his son A.J. ready to get the 2007 season started, after helping lead the St. Louis Cardinals to their first World Series title in 24 years. Albert had an extremely busy offseason, becoming a US citizen, and also skipping the trip to the White House, to go on a humanitarian trip to his native Dominician Republic. It was pretty busy," Pujols said Wednesday.

St. Louis Cardinals' Albert Pujols walks away from the plate after striking out against Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Jeremy Bonderman during the first inning of Game 4 of the World Series in this Oct. 26, 2006 file photo, in St. Louis.

Despite the busy offseason, it did not prevent Albert from reporting to camp in tip top shape. His foot, back, or hamstrings are currently not an issue, but Albert did cautiously say "there has been no baseball activity yet." "I feel too strong right now, but it's better to be ready," Pujols said. "We'll see if I can hold on hopefully, for the whole year."

We here at www.albertpujolsclub.com could not be more excited to hear Albert Pujols arriving to camp early, and ready to go. Can you say BACK TO BACK WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS??

Albert loves Pittsburgh pitching. His .474 batting average on the season proves that. 12 runs in 12 games is awfully impressive, while the 7 homeruns was the most against any team in 2006. 13 rbi’s in 12 g ames is awfully pretty impressive. Lastly, 12 walks, 1 strikeout? Are you kidding? WOW

Albert’s numbers against the Astros

Houston Astros vs. St. Louis Cardinals

During the second series of the year, the Cardinals will travel to Houston to face their big rival, the Houston Astros. Here are Albert's 2006 numbers against the Astros, 2006 numbers at Minute Maid, his career numbers against the Astros and his career numbers at Minute Maid.

2006 v. Astros:

16 games.
18-58, .310
10 runs
2 doubles
1 triple
3 homeruns
11 rbi's
14 walks
8 strikeouts
Albert had a pretty impressive 2006 season against the Astros. His .310 batting average is a little lower than his season average, but the 10 runs in 16 games is pretty good, along with his 11 rbi's. How about that walk to strikeout ratio. 14-8, can anyone beat that?

2006 at Minute Maid Park:

10 games
12-39, .308 batting average
6 runs
0 doubles
1 triple
2 homeruns
5 rbi's
6 walks
4 strikeouts
Pujols has always had good success at Minute Maid. As you will see, hos .308 in 2006 is actually lower than his career at MMP, but regardless he had a nice year there. Again, more walks than strikeouts.

Career v. Astros:

102 games
122-383, .319 batting average
72 runs
19 doubles
1 triple
25 homeruns
60 rbi's
59 walks
48 strikeouts
Albert Pujols in his career has enjoyed hitting the Astros pitching. .319 career batting average, which still rates lower than his overall career batting average. His 25 homeruns, 60 rbi's is impressive, and once again, what a great walk to strikeout ratio.

Career at Minute Maid Park:

53 games.
68-205, .332 batting average
40 runs
8 doubles.
1 triple
16 homeruns
32 rbi's
26 walks
30 strikeouts
Minute Maid park has been good to Albert Pujols in his career. In the 53 games, the .332 batting average is extremely impressive, along with 16 homeruns and 32 rbi's, and for the fourth time, less walks than strikeouts. Nice.
Official www.albertpujolsclub.com prediction: Albert continues his dominace of the Astros and Minute Maid Park, and has a nice weekend series. 2 homeruns, 6 rbi's is our guess.

Albert v. the Mets

New York Mets vs. St. Louis Cardinals

From now until the Major League Baseball season starts, we here at www.albertpujolsclub.com will give you the up to the second breakdown statistics of Albert Pujols against each and every team the St. Louis Cardinals will face during the 2007 season. We hope you enjoy, and best of luck to our guy, Albert Pujols

On opening weekend Albert and the Cardinals will take on the New York Mets.

2006 season v. the Mets:

5 games
5-20, .250 batting average
3 runs
2 homeruns
9 rbi’s
1 walks
1 strikeouts
Outside of Albert’s 2 homerun, 7 rbi performance against Mets pitcher John Maine, Albert did not do a ton of damage against the Mets in 2006. Albert did also play the Mets in the 2006 postseason. Here are Albert’s postseason stats against the Mets:
2006 Postseason v. the Mets
7 games.
7-22, .320 batting average
5 runs
1 double
1 homerun
1 rbi
7 walks
3 strikeouts
While Albert did not tear the cover off the baseball in the 2006 NLCS, the number that sticks out to us is the 7 walks in 22 at bats. Yes, his 7-22, for a .320 batting average is actually pretty good, but for Albert, sometimes you just expect more. And the one homerun, and one rbi, is below our typical Albert standards. Bottom line. Cardinals 4, Mets 3.
Career v. the Mets:
36 games.
44-138, .319 batting average
33 runs
10 doubles
0 triples
13 homeruns
37 rbi’s
21 walks
20 strikeouts
1 stolen base
.319 batting average. Once again, to Albert that is below standards, but to the rest of the baseball world, they will take that and run. The 33 runs in 36 games is pretty good. Almost one run per game. 13 homeruns, means he hits a homerun almost every three games he plays against the Mets. So it looks like in the 3 game series to start the year- Albert should hit a homerun. The best numbers you may ask.. 37 rbi’s in 36 games, that is good. If he did that all year, I’ll take 162 rbi’s.. Lastly, 21 walks, 20 strikeouts. Impressive.
www.albertpujolsclub.com prediction: Albert stays Albert and tears up the Mets pitching, and proves 2006 for the Cardinals was no fluke!
