Backe needs to back off

This doesn’t directly relate to our guy Albert Pujols, but kinda.  You all remember the little scuffle AP and Backe had a few weeks ago right?  Well, Brandon is back to his punkish-like behavior.  In the other nights game he threw the freakin ball at Yadi Molina’s head.  After the game he said,

I can understand him getting a little upset because it was so high,” said Backe, who added he meant to throw inside but not as close to Molina’s face as the pitch went. “I think he overreacted as far as causing such a big scene but I don’t think he shouldn’t have gotten mad at me for throwing the ball up around his head.”

What?  So you admin to throwing at his head?  Who in their right mind would NOT have a problem with this?  You have a problem with dominican’s Backe?  Good thing the Cardinals dominated you and Albert went deeeeeeeep shortly after.  Just shut your mouth Backe!

Pujols is a natural middle infielder

So how odd did it look last night with Albert at second base?  This was not a planned thing. When Izturis got hurt in the ninth, they were force to make some changes.  Pujols is the most versatile of the group and moved to 2B with Larue going to 1B.  Just think fantasy owners, 14 more games there and he qualifies at 2B  :)

He made a routine play at 2B to end the inning as well.  It does look a bit strange having such a massive guy in the middle infield.

Time to bring the pain to the Pirates

Albert Pujols absolutely CRUSHES the Pirates, especially in Pittsburgh.  With his 21 straight games of reaching base, Pujols looks to extend that with a hit or walk this week in Pitt.  Pujols is clearly locked in right now.  Maybe not hitting all the power numbers he wants, but walks are just as important sometimes.

“I’m seeing the ball really good,” he said. “I’m really being disciplined at the plate. I think last year, pressing a little bit in the first two months helped me out a lot in my career. This year, even though I had a slow start, I wasn’t pushing. I knew that my numbers were going to be there. I needed to take my walks.”

Ian Snell is the opposing pitcher on Wednesday.  He may want to consider walking Albert EVERY single time.  Pujols is 9-16 with 4 bombs off of Snell over his career.  That is sick!  Pujols is also the all-time visiting homerun hitter at PNC Park with 20.  The next highest is 12.  Wow!  Could be a good week for AP.

So far, the Major League Baseball season is only two weeks old, but it is obvious the Cardinals first basemen is once again doing a great job of being a leader.
