Pujols shows greatness. Cardinals show mediocrity…

by admin on August 22, 2006

It has been a frustrating season for the St. Louis Cardinals. Tuesday night was a PERFECT example of why. It a season where the pitching goes well, the hitting goes dry, and when the hitting goes well, the pitching goes dry, Tuesday night was just an example of an over rated over payed closer.

Our man, Jose Alberto Pujols had one of his many CAREER nights at the plate. Albert hit a 3 run homerun in the third to give the Cardinals a 3-1 lead, then promptly hit a grandslam to give the Birds a 7-1 lead. Jeff Weaver then surroundered a grandslam to Carlos Delgado(his second of the night) and it was 7-5.

The Mets tacked one more in, and made it 7-6 gong into the 9th inning. That is when blown saves leader Jason Isringhausen took over, and blew his 9th save of the season on a walk off homerun by Mr. Carlos Delgado, Albert's main threat for MVP. Unbelievable. This team gets more frustrating as the season goes.

With 38 games to go, the Cardinals lead in the divison is down to ONE game.

Check out the column on the right for Albert's stats against Wednesday's pitcher, against the Mets, and career at Shea Stadium. Also log onto the forum to read about Albert's triple crown chances.
