Marlins are a Big Fish. Albert Pujols would be a great catch for the Marlins. What could he do for them? Catch little fish. The fans would go crazy in South Beach with Pujols in the lineup and Ozzie Guillen in the managers role. Afterall, Miami is almost 70% Hispanic and they would go Gaga over this scenario.
What about the money? The total payroll of the Marlins in 2011 was $56 million. If you give him anywhere from $20-$30M he is making a big chunk of change that they are not normally spending. Can they afford to pay their budding stars of Logan Morrison and Mike Stanton enough money to keep them for a long term contract?
A new stadium has been built in Miami and they are branding themselves as the Miami Marlins for next year. A splash is needed to get people to attend. Have you ever watched a game from Florida? The attendance is pathetic and couple that with the Hispanic population in Miami is one of the poorest communities in the city.
I don’t see it happening in Miami unless they don’t care about profit margin. Will they pay Albert? If Jayson Werth can get a contract from the Nationals like he did then Albert Pujols is worth every cent. It is not likely for Albert and DeeDee making residence in Miami, Florida.
