Albert Pujols is doing what Albert Pujols does best. So far, the Major League Baseball season is only two weeks old, but it is obvious the Cardinals first basemen is once again doing a great job of being a leader. This time, Albert is leading a young, understarred team. Currently the Cardinals are 8-3 and in first place in the National League Central, a game and a half ahead of both the Brewers, and the Cubs. Albert coming into Saturday’s game 14 of 37 for a .378 batting average. He has 3 doubles, along with 3 homeruns, and 8 rbi’s. Albert has walked 10 times, while only striking out 4 times.
This big surprise for the 2008 Cardinals has been the starting pitching. Coming into Saturday’s game, the Cardinals starters are 7-1. Today’s starter Todd Wellemeyer comes in with a 1-0 record, and a 2.25 era. The ace of the staff, Adam Wainwright has the only loss of the group, and is 1-1 with a 3.60 era. Kyle Lohse has been a huge surprise with a 2-0 record, and a 1.04 era. Braden Looper is also 2-0, and has a 3.09 era, while Brad Thompson is 1-0 with a 2.53 era.
