Pujols Matchups

Albert v. the Mets

New York Mets vs. St. Louis Cardinals

From now until the Major League Baseball season starts, we here at www.albertpujolsclub.com will give you the up to the second breakdown statistics of Albert Pujols against each and every team the St. Louis Cardinals will face during the 2007 season. We hope you enjoy, and best of luck to our guy, Albert Pujols

On opening weekend Albert and the Cardinals will take on the New York Mets.

2006 season v. the Mets:

5 games
5-20, .250 batting average
3 runs
2 homeruns
9 rbi’s
1 walks
1 strikeouts
Outside of Albert’s 2 homerun, 7 rbi performance against Mets pitcher John Maine, Albert did not do a ton of damage against the Mets in 2006. Albert did also play the Mets in the 2006 postseason. Here are Albert’s postseason stats against the Mets:
2006 Postseason v. the Mets
7 games.
7-22, .320 batting average
5 runs
1 double
1 homerun
1 rbi
7 walks
3 strikeouts
While Albert did not tear the cover off the baseball in the 2006 NLCS, the number that sticks out to us is the 7 walks in 22 at bats. Yes, his 7-22, for a .320 batting average is actually pretty good, but for Albert, sometimes you just expect more. And the one homerun, and one rbi, is below our typical Albert standards. Bottom line. Cardinals 4, Mets 3.
Career v. the Mets:
36 games.
44-138, .319 batting average
33 runs
10 doubles
0 triples
13 homeruns
37 rbi’s
21 walks
20 strikeouts
1 stolen base
.319 batting average. Once again, to Albert that is below standards, but to the rest of the baseball world, they will take that and run. The 33 runs in 36 games is pretty good. Almost one run per game. 13 homeruns, means he hits a homerun almost every three games he plays against the Mets. So it looks like in the 3 game series to start the year- Albert should hit a homerun. The best numbers you may ask.. 37 rbi’s in 36 games, that is good. If he did that all year, I’ll take 162 rbi’s.. Lastly, 21 walks, 20 strikeouts. Impressive.
www.albertpujolsclub.com prediction: Albert stays Albert and tears up the Mets pitching, and proves 2006 for the Cardinals was no fluke!
